Inhabitants of Moldovan autonomy participate in election of governor

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ – In UTA Gagauz, on Sunday, 30 June, there are held elections of the governor of autonomy. There have been opened 66 electoral polling stations in the region, which work from 07:00 – 21:00, has reported the Electoral commission of Comrat (CEC).

Today, Gagauzia is about to vote on 106,068 voters included within lists. Aut of these, 45,805 voters live in Comrat district, 39,501 – in Ceadar – Lunga district and 19,762 – in Vulcanesti district.

The residents of autonomy will have to elect their head from 04 candidates – Irina Vlah, Serghei Cimpoies, Ivan Burgudji and Dmitri Manol. Following a court decision, candidate Vasili Aladov was deprived of the right to stand for election, and alongside his name in ballot papers, it was stamped the word – Eliminated.

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has accredited several international observers to monitor the present election. According to CEC's data, up to the IInd half of June, there were accredited 37 international observers and 10 national observers by the diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, 03 international organisations and 01 non – governmental organisation (NGO) for election of the head of Gagauzia.

There were printed a total of 107,499 ballots for elections of Gagauzian governor. The ballot is purple, 140 mm wide, and the candidates are listed in the order in which they were registered by CEC. There are 3,108 ones in Gagauz language, and in Romanian – 2,722. Traditionally, most ballot papers (101,669) are in Russian.

The governor (Bashkan) is the supreme official of autonomous territorial unit with special status Gagauzia (UTA Gagauz – Yeri), an integral and inalienable part of Moldova, being a form of self – determination of Gagauzians. The governor is subordinated to all the public administration authorities (AAP) in Gagauzia. Under the legislation on the special legal status of Gagauzia, the governor is elected by universal, equal, direct, secret, and free vote for a four – year term on an alternative basis. The candidates for position of governor must be aged 35 and know Gagauz language.
