Some polling stations from Gagauzia continue activity after closing

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ – The elections for position of Bashkan of Gagauzia are prolonged for about an hour.
At 21:00, it was decided that some polling stations in UTA Gagauz – Yeri would prolong their activity by about an hour so that more voters would be able to exercise their voting right.
This right is guaranteed pursuant to article 53, part 07, of the Gagauz – Yeri territorial electoral code.
Residents of the autonomy had to elect the governor from four candidates for this position - Irina Vlah, Sergei Cimpoies, Ivan Burgudji and Dmitri Manol.
Today, during the run – off, Dmitri Manol has asked the Comrat CEC to urgently withdraw candidacy of Irina Vlah from election campaign. He claims that Vlah would have bribed the voters. Also, the candidate did not provide any evidence to prove the statements. Because of it, the complaint was rejected.
The vote is being watched by 192 observers.
The governor (Bashkan) is the supreme official of autonomous territorial unit with special status Gagauzia (UTA Gagauz – Yeri), an integral and inalienable part of Moldova, being a form of self – determination of Gagauzians. The governor subordinates all public administration authorities (AAP) in Gagauzia. Under the legislation on the special legal status of Gagauzia, the governor is elected by universal, equal, direct, secret, and free vote for a four – year term on an alternative basis. The candidates for position of governor must be aged 35 and possess Gagauz language.
