Moldovan medical institutions to distribute anti-scab, anti-pediculosis medicines to residents for free

Chisinau, 01 July /MOLDPRES/ – All primary healthcare facilities will be provided with anti – scabies and anti – pediculosis medicines, which will be distributed free of charge to population. Also, the medical staff will organise medical exams in recreation camps, medical and educational institutions, aimed to detect these diseases.

It has been issued an order on it on Monday, 01 July, by the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS), jointly with Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) and National Healthcare Insurance Company (CNAM).

Similarly, with the support of UNICEF Moldova, there will be set leaflets on prevention of poisoning with chemicals, which will be placed in public places and veterinary pharmacies. Also, the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) will ensure compliance with requirements for marketing and use of chemicals, as well as inform population about public healthcare risks.

According to the MSMPS's information and media communication service, the actions take place after more and more cases of household poisoning have been reported for the treatment of various diseases, such as scabies or pediculosis, which often result in cases of child deaths.

According to statistical data, since 2012 until present, there have suffered 27,360 persons from exogenous poisoning of chemical etiology, out of which 7,961 children. Out of these ones, 859 persons died, 38 of whom were children.

In April of 2019, a 16 – year – old teenager in village Bucuria, Cahul district, died after her grandmother treated him for scabies at home.
