Chisinau, 1 July /MOLDPRES/ - The strategic goal of Romania is the support of Moldova’s European vector. Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu made statements to this effect at a joint news conference with Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu in Bucharest today.
The Romanian diplomacy head said that Bucharest appreciated the fact that the first official visits, both by the foreign affairs minister and the prime minister of Moldova, were paid to Romania. “I congratulated the new minister and assured him of Romania’s support in the process of Moldova’s integration into EU. We also praise the visit by Prime Minister Maia Sandu and we are waiting for her to discuss the bilateral projects,” Melescanu stressed.
The diplomat specified that Romania committed to back Moldova for the resumption of the financing on behalf of the European Union.
For his part, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said that, in Bucharest, the sides had discussed bilateral projects, as well as the ones of energy inter-connection. Popescu noted that the subject of federalization, spread in the last time, cannot become reality and Moldova was already stably connected to the European space.
The meeting between the two ministers preceded a visit to Bucharest by PM Maia Sandu, due on 2 July, where the Moldovan prime minister will have meetings with President Klaus Iohannis and PM Viorica Dancila. The Moldovan prime minister will also go to the parliament of Bucharest.
