Head of central electoral commission of Moldova announces to apply for resignation

Chisinau, 02 July /MOLDPRES/ – The head of Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Alina Russu, has announced on Tuesday morning that she has applied for resignation.
The info was confirmed to agency by the head of CEC's Communication Directorate, Rodica Sirbu.
A message from Alina Russu was posted on the official website of institution.
"Today I filed my request for resignation as a member of CEC. It was not a simple decision, but one assumed. Under the rule of law, it is imperative that free expression to be ensured both to voter and those who, by virtue of their functions, are responsible for organisation and conduct of electoral process. The intimacy in any component of electoral process is incompatible with the free development of participatory democracy. The implementation the recent initiatives to modify the normative framework in electoral matters could raise suspicions about the freedom of superior electoral authority's decisions," says message signed by Alina Russu.
Alina Russu was appointed as head of CEC on 27 June 2016. Previously, she held the position of senior adviser to parliamentary faction of the Communists' party of Moldova (PCRM) and head of the cabinet of president of PCRM's parliamentary faction.
