Moldovan, Romanian premiers discuss deepening of bilateral ties, support for Moldova's European agenda

Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Prime Minister of Romania Viorica Dancila, at a today’s meeting, exchanged opinions on the synchronization of joint actions, in order to provide more substance to the development of the Strategic European Partnership between Moldova and Romania, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
PM Maia Sandu expressed thanks for the congratulatory message by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, conveyed on the occasion of the new cabinet’s swearing in office, as well as for the messages of support received on a difficult period for Moldova.
At the meeting, the officials reiterated interest in the deepening of the Moldovan-Romanian institutional cooperation in diverse sectors, especially on the segment of economic and social projects, for maintaining the format of joint government meetings, as well as for the promotion of partnerships through twinning, at the level of local public administration. “I think that this form of cooperation is successful and is worth being backed by both governments. We need Romania’s support to strengthen the capacities of the local, as well as the central public administration from Moldova,” the Moldovan PM said.
One of the subjects of strategic importance tackled regarded the implementation of joint projects in the energy sector, with emphasis on the completion of the construction and full putting into operation of the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau. Also, the sides stressed the importance of the interconnection of the high-tension electricity lines, as well as the building of the Union Highway and the bridge across the Prut river in the Ungheni city region.
Another priority discussed at the meeting was focused on increasing the trade exchanges and mutual investments. In the context, PM Maia Sandu welcomed the presence of the business environment from Romania in Moldova’s economic life and encouraged companies from Romania to increase investments in Moldova.
For her part, Romanian PM Viorica Dancila expressed the Romanian cabinet’s full willingness for an excellent cooperation with Prime Minister Maia Sandu and the new Moldovan governmental team, in the spirit of the bilateral strategic partnership.
„Romania will remain the sincerest supporter of Moldova on the European path. I assured that we will permanently act inside the European consensus to increase the benefits of the European Union’s external actions in Moldova. We are ready to back the unlocking of the financial assistance provided by the European Union to Moldova and to provide expertise at the bilateral level in more sectors, taking into account the experience gained by Romania in the context of holding the Presidency of the European Union’s Council,” Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said.
At the same time, according to the Romanian PM, during the meeting, the officials identified the fields of immediate interest, on which the sides will focus on the next period. Thus, the two governments will start acting within an inter-governmental working group and are to analyze which of the projects underway need immediate attention.
