Enterprises from Moldova to benefit from two trade financing lines

Chisinau, 4 July /MOLDPRES/ - Enterprises from Moldova will be able to benefit from two trade financing lines. For this, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide 13 million dollars to two banks of Moldova, within the trade facilitation programme.

Through this instrument, EBRD will issue guarantees in favour of international commercial banks, which cover the political and commercial risk related to the transactions made by the two creditors from Moldova and will provide financing for the export and import transactions. The banks will also benefit from EBRD’s technical cooperation projects in the trade financing sector.

EBRD has recently unlocked the financing to those two banks, following the steps undertaken by the two creditors to ensure the transparency of shareholders and re-establish the corporate governance.

In April 2019, EBRD provided loans worth five million euros for each bank through the credit line EU4Business-EBRD. The financing meant for backing the commerce between Moldovan companies and the European Union was accompanied by non-refundable financing on behalf of EU, through the EU4Business initiative.

EBRD is the biggest institutional investor of Moldova. Since the beginning of the bank’s operations in the country, the EBRD has invested 1.2 billion euros in more than 125 projects in the financial sector, agro-business, energy infrastructure and processing industry of Moldova.

The EBRD trade facilitation programme presently includes over 100 partner banks from 29 countries, in which the Bank has invested more than 1.5 billion euros.
