Three Moldovan MPs give up mandates because over incompatibility of offices

Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Maia Sandu, Interior Minister Andrei Nastase and Education, Culture, and Research Minister Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei today informed that they gave up the MP mandates because of the incompatibility of offices.
Under the Constitution, the position of lawmaker “is incompatible with the exercising of any other remunerated office, except for the teaching and scientific activity. Other incompatibilities are established under organic law.” Thus, the MP who is in one of incompatibility cases will resign from the office incompatible with the lawmaker mandate on a period of 30 days after the mandate’s validation.
Both Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase made it to parliament elected in uninominal electoral districts, while Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei – on party lists.
The Electoral Code sets that, if a candidate who won the polls in a uninominal districts withdraws, new elections are organized in the concerned electoral district. Thus, new parliamentary elections should be held in the uninominal districts No 33 and No 50 till 8 October 2019.
