Moldovan parliament to hold meeting on 9 July

Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan parliament will hold a meeting on 9 July to initiate the procedure of dismissal of Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen. The head of state has made statements to this effect, noting that he would sign the decree on his dismissal immediately after the procedures are carried out on legislative dimension.
According to Igor Dodon, for more than a month, both the Moldovan leadership and the society have been urging the Prosecutor General to resign; yet, he refused to do this.
“In these conditions, the parliament of Moldova will hold a meeting on 9 July, in order to initiate the procedure of dismissal of Eduard Harunjen. Under Moldova’s legislation, immediately after the procedures are carried out on the legislative dimension, I will be ready to sign the decree on the dismissal of the Prosecutor General,” Dodon said.
Eduard Harunjen was appointed General Prosecutor in December 2016. He is 47 years old and has worked at the Chisinau-based prosecutor’s Office starting from 1994. Beginning with 1996 till 2006, Harunjen acted as deputy head of more sections at the Interior Ministry. On the period 2012-2013, he was prosecutor for special missions at the Prosecutor General’s Office and subsequently he held the office of anticorruption prosecutor and first deputy of the Prosecutor General.
