IMF rules to earmark 46.5 million dollars to Moldova

Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s authorities have successfully completed the negotiations held with the experts team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Ruben Atoyan, in the context of the fourth and fifth assessment of the economic programme backed by IMF. As a result, Moldova this year will benefit from 46.5 million dollars for a string of measures for the economic growth and improvement of the living standards of the Moldovan citizens. At the same time, the sides approved the extension of the programme with IMF till March 2020. Prime Minister Maia Sandu made statements to this effect at a news conference today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„You know that the programme was suspended because of inadequate decisions by the former cabinet, especially those regarding the fiscal amnesty, as well as other ones, which unbalanced Moldova’s budget. We agreed on concrete decisions and measures, which would re-balance the budget and which would allow all important expenses dealing with the payment of salaries, the spending especially for the socially vulnerable segments be paid, so that there are enough revenues and, obviously, the most important thing is our possibility to get grants, foreign financing on behalf of the European Union worth 1.368 billion lei. This is the money we bring to Moldova’s budget, due to the fact that we are a responsible team, which managed to win the trust of foreign financers,” PM Maia Sandu said.
The financial means will be used for maintaining the pace of reforms’ implementation, protect the priority spending for reducing poverty, as well as undertake decisive measures to fight corruption.
