Moldovan PM demands carrying financial, technical revision of Chisinau Arena's construction

Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Maia Sandu has demanded the carrying out of a technical and financial revision as regards the construction of the Chisinau Arena. The PM made statements to this effect in the beginning of a cabinet meeting today.

Maia Sandu said that there were suspicions about eventual irregularities dealing with the project’s implementation. In this context, the prime minister asked the Education, Culture and Research Ministry to come up with a petition to the Finance Ministry and Economics and Infrastructure Ministry to carry out a technical and financial revision of the project.

„We do not understand how the estimation of this project’s cost was made, as no justifying document for these costs has been found. An impression is created that the sum of 43 million euros, assessed for this project, was taken from nowhere. During time, the things have changed and now the cost of this project is of 44.5 million euros. There are risks that the real cost is lower than what the state spends for the project,” Maia Sandu said.

The prime minister added that another question deals with the ground allocated for the Arena’s building. “It is not clear why a ground of 69.2 hectares was to be made available for the project, in the situation when the construction occupies only ten hectares. You see, the state has lost 90 million lei from the failure to include in the project the costs for changing the purpose of the ground,” Sandu specified.

The construction of the Chisinau Arena started in last autumn and was to be completed in a 12-month period.
