Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - Works of setting two solar trees, generating photovoltaic electric energy, are carried out in Moldova’s capital. With the help of these solar trees, the Chisinau residents will be able to charge their mobile phones for free and will even have access to the Internet. At nights, the solar trees will decoratively illuminate the perimeter, due to the energy accumulated from the sun during the day.
The solar trees are installed on the Grigore Vieru and Mircea cel Batran boulevards. The locations were suggested by Chisinau residents, following several stages of selection. The solar trees will be monitored by video means 24 hours. The initiative belongs to the United Nations Development Programme and is carried out in partnership with the Chisinau city hall.
The solar trees are endowed with six USB terminals for the charging of mobile phones and six 230 V plugs for the charging of computers and electronic bicycles. They have incorporated 18 photovoltaic modules with an overall power of 810 W and offer decorative illumination at night with a capacity of 18 W. The technology will provide a yearly reduction of about 700 kg of CO2.
„The setting of solar trees is financed by the United Nations Development Programme within a regional project comprising the capitals of Serbia, Tajikistan, Georgia and Moldova. We are happy that we bring the innovation to Chisinau,” the manager of the project Sustainable Green Cities, Alexandru Rotaru, said.
The Chisinau city hall is to ensure the arrangement of the area adjacent to the trees, including the paving of the ground.
