Chisinau, 11 July /MOLDPRES/ - The decisions on the resignation of the members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Alina Russu, Rodica Ciubotaru and Iurie Ciocan, will be published in the 12 July issue of the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).

The parliament approved the decisions on 5 July, with the votes of the majority of the MPs present at the meeting, based on the applications on resignation submitted by those three members.

Iurie Ciocan tendered resignation from CEC member in late last June, invoking as reason “the disagreement with the recent amendments to the electoral legislation.” Subsequently, CEC head Alina Russu and the electoral body’s deputy head, Rodica Ciubotaru, resigned from office.

CEC is made up of nine members. One member is nominated by the Moldovan president and the other eight ones are nominated by the parliament, with the observance of the proportional representation of the majority and opposition.
