Moldovan foreign affairs minister receives ambassador of Canada

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu and Bucharest-based Ambassador of Canada to Moldova Kevin Hamilton at a today’s meeting discussed the support by the Ottawa authorities for the reforms’ agenda of Moldova’s government, deepening the Moldovan-Canadian relations in diverse spheres of mutual interest, role of the Moldovan Diaspora for the bilateral ties, as well as the attraction of Canadian investments in Moldova, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.  

The officials pointed out the joint interest in the deepening of the relations in the investment, commercial, economic cyber sectors, as well as the contribution and weight paid by the Moldovan Diaspora settled in various regions of Canada to the fostering of the Moldovan-Canadian relations.  

Minister Nicu Popescu stressed the Moldovan authorities’ wish to advance the bilateral dialogue with Canada, as well as diversify the cooperation in various fields. “Moldova has always had a good relation with Canada. The current government felt the support of Canada several weeks ago, in the context of the difficulties we were facing; now, when we have an intense foreign agenda, we will focus on the deepening of the Moldovan-Canadian relations.

Ambassador Kevin Hamilton highlighted his country’s support for the Moldovan government. “The Moldovan cabinet can rely on every support of the Ottawa authorities, for carrying out the agenda of structural reforms in Moldova.”  

Also, Ambassador Hamilton reconfirmed Canadian companies’ interest in investing in the Moldovan economy. He stressed that these processes would acquire a new intensity with the entrance into force of the agreement between the governments of Moldova and Canada on the mutual promotion and protection of investments.  

It is worth mentioning that, on 10 July 2019, the Moldovan cabinet approved a draft law on the ratification of the agreement between the governments of Moldova and Canada on mutual promotion and protection of investments, signed in Ottawa on 12 June 2018. The concerned treaty will contribute to ensuring the protection and promotion of investments by the two states, boosting the Moldovan-Canadian commercial ties in fields of mutual interest, as well as in the political, social and cultural sectors.
