PM states USA persists, remains strategic partner of Moldova

Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Government in Chisinau has a political will to stop all lawsuits and illegal schemes, and it matters in this regard the cooperation with the United States of America, which has been and remains a strategic partner for Moldova. The statement has been made on Saturday, 13 July, by Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, after meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of State, David Hale.

PM has said that Moldova needs, more than ever, the U.S. support in the fight against corruption, monopolies, money laundering and combating smuggling at regional level. In this context, Moldova counts upon cooperation with USA in the field of law enforcement, specialised institutions in the fight against corruption and reform of justice.

"The United States of America has been and remains a strategic partner of Moldova in its efforts to become a free and democratic country. The USA continues to transfer best democratic, good governance, anti – corruption practices to Moldova. The USA has built roads, implemented infrastructure projects, and provided crucial support to Moldova at international level. Unfortunately, Moldova has failed to take full advantage of this support and expertise," said Maia Sandu.

The Premier has said that since 1992, the USA has granted Moldova financial assistance worth over $1.4 bln. Also, there have arrived 15 mobile labs in Moldova to carry out investigations at the crime scene. The U.S. Government has also donated six modular containers to Border Police (PF) to carry out joint control at the Moldovan – Ukrainian border. There were rehabilitated 96 km of road and built 10 irrigation systems under the Compact programme.

US Under Secretary of State, David Hale, has said the USA will continue to support Moldova in combating corruption.
