Reforms' programme, foreign policy priorities of Moldova discussed at EU Foreign Affairs Council

Chisinau, 15 July /MOLDPRES/ - The present situation in Moldova, reforms’ programme and the foreign policy priorities of the country, support for the implementation of the Association Agreement’s provisions and the fostering of the cooperation with the European institutions, as well as with each member state have been discussed by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu at the EU Foreign Affairs Council. The Moldovan diplomacy head participated in the event at an invitation by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
At an informal discussion with the foreign affairs ministers, to which a Moldovan foreign affairs minister was invited for the first time ever, the Moldovan diplomacy head informed in detail his European counterparts about the latest developments in Moldova. Special attention was paid to efforts to counteract the corruption phenomenon, re-launch the process of reforms, based on the Association Agreement, de-block access to foreign assistance programmes, foreign policy priorities.
At the ministerial discussion, Nicu Popescu said that “the re-launch of the dialogue with Brussels gives Moldova a new opportunity, which allows deepening the cooperation with the European Union. To fully benefit from this opportunity, we will focus on the carrying out of the reforms coming from the Association Agreement.”
Minister Popescu spoke out for the boosting of cooperation both with the European institutions and the member states, through fostering the political dialogue and implementation of concrete projects. Also, the Moldovan foreign affairs minister asked for the European partners’ support to recover the money purloined from Moldovan banks, in the context of the bank fraud.
The European foreign affairs ministers put a string of questions on the political and economic situation in Moldova, as well as the cabinet’s priorities in various sectors. The EU ministers confirmed willingness to provided needed backing for Moldova’s European integration efforts.
