Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ – The members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) have decided today to extend the contest for selection of two judges at the Constitutional Court (CC) until 23 July. The decision has been announced by the head of CSM, Victor Micu, which has specified that election of candidates will be made on 30 July.
According to the decision of CSM, the council will elaborate and publish the selection criteria for the two CCM magistrates in the next period, and the candidates who have already entered the competition will remain in the race if they meet the requirements.
At the meeting of CSM of today, there were present the candidates which have been already enrolled in the race for the seats of CC.
In the morning, PM Maia Sandu has sent a request to CSM to select only full and uncompromised individuals as judges of CC.
"The institution of CC, compromised in an unprecedented mode, needs a rehabilitation in front of citizens, society and external partners. The ones which are guilty of numerous convictions at the ECHR, who have unhindered the political orders of ex – regime, who have issued illegal acts or can not justify their assets, can not restore confidence in CC," wrote PM.
The PM has specified in the message that "if CSM does not take into account the criteria of integrity and professionalism within selection of judges of CC, we shall have to initiate the process of external cleansing of CC and the judiciary."
For the two vacant positions at CC, there have participated 14 persons in the contest organised by CSM.
The CC is made up of six judges, appointed for a six – year term. Two judges are appointed by Parliament, two by Government and two by CSM.
