"It is our duty to remember, so that those events are known and recognised by the generations that come. We lost our countrymen, capable and courageous people, with sorrow for their people, who gave their lives for the cause of the country and deserve to be remembered", said mayor of Cimislia, Gheorghe Raileanu.

The Dniester war was attended by 380 local inhabitants from Cimislia, out of which 110 policemen, 160 soldiers, 60 medical specialists and 38 soldiers. Ten of them did not return from the battlefield.

The conflict in the Transnistrian region broke out on 02 March 1992. The ceasefire took place on 21 July 1992, after the signing of an agreement of Moldova and Russia.

At the war, there were about 28,000 combatants, military men and reservists of the National Army (AN), employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and Service of Intelligence and Security (SIS), hundreds of volunteers and civilians.
