Head of energy regulation agency says entity suggests increase of electricity tariff for household consumers in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ – The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has proposed for public examination an increase by 3.2 per cent, up to MDL 1.85 per kWh/hour electricity provided by Gas Natural Fenosa Furnizare Energie SRL, writes on a social network director of ANRE, Octavian Calmic. He has referred to the Draft project of adjustment of electricity distribution tariffs and regulated electricity supply prices placed on the official website of regulator, on Friday, 19 July.

Gas Natural Fenosa Furnizare Energie SRL has requested the tariff of MDL 1.94/kWh or 8.6 per cent more than actual tariff, namely MDL 1.79/kWh.

According to project, ANRE proposes for consideration in public session an increase of 14.9 per cent, to MDL 2.19/kWh of electricity tariff provided by company SA Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord. The company in the north of Moldova requested an increase of 22.46 per cent of tariff, up to MDL 2.34/kWh, compared to current tariff of MDL 1.91/kWh.

The tariff adjustment is required to cover price increases of imported electricity, production costs, negative financial fluctuations accumulated during 2019 and ensure sustainability of deliveries and payments in sector. During 2019, the most sensitive and unstable indicator has been the exchange rate, which has recorded the highest fluctuations of appreciation and depreciation in recent years. That is why, following the policy of BNM, it was proposed to use the exchange rate established according to the Budget Law (LB) for 2019, says Octavian Calmic. The state budget was built on a course of MDL 17.2 for $1.

Despite the above, the confrontation of positions and info provided by market operators and ANRE will take place at a public meeting in early August.

The recent adjustment of electricity tariffs was operated by ANRE on 15 June 2018, when it decided, following public debate meeting, to cut electricity tariff by an average of 10 per cent. The price for electrical energy provided by Gas Natural Fenosa Furnizare Energy for household consumers was set at MDL 1.79/kWh, compared to previous one of MDL 1.99. For household consumers in the north of Moldova, customers of Furnizare Energie Electrica Nord, the tariff was reduced from MDL 2.12/kWh to MDL 1.91.
