Ex – border police officer released from custody in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ – Gheorghe Petic has been released from custody. The decision has been announced on Friday evening, 19 July, by the magistrates of the Court of Appeal of Chisinau (CAC) municipality.
Also, Gheorghe Petic was banned from leaving Moldova for 60 days. The magistrates of CAC further decided to send the case of Gheorghe Petic back to the court of first instance.
"We thank all the citizens which have resisted until the last minute in defending the case of Gheorghe Petic! The truth will always prevail when the good persons stand on his side. Gheorghe, you are our hero! Today you go home to your loved ones. Victory!" wrote MP Inga Grigoriu on a social network.
In March 2019, Gheorghe Petic was sentenced by Ist instance to 3.5 years imprisonment in a case in which he has been accused of rape. Petic declares innocent. Shortly afterwards, it was opened a new case on the name of Petic in which he has been investigated for hooliganism.
The ex – border police officer, Gheorghe Petic, became known after he had made more revelations on cigarette smuggling involving officials from both banks of the Prut river.
