Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - A new case of African swine fever virus (ASFV) has been discovered in the Manta commune, southern Cahul district, where a local resident found the corpse of a pig. The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) confirmed the case.

On 19 July, the findings of a laboratory test confirmed the presence of the swine fever virus. At the same time, specialists liquidated all the family of infected pigs. According to the head of the Cahul-based ANSA subdivision, Serghei Maximenco, today morning, the institution was informed about another corpse of a pig, in the Pascani village, Manta commune. At present, the case is under investigation.

The deputy head of the Cahul district, Vlad Casuneanu, informed that the local authorities had undertaken all measures to isolate the hotbed and filters had been created at the exits from the settlement, according to the website www.ziuadeazi.md.

In the context of the appearance of the African swine fever virus, ANSA monitors the epizootic situation and reminds to the owners of pigs not to feed animals with leftovers, not let them free and change clothes before entering animals’ shelters, as well as to observe the bio-security norms.

The African swine fever is not dangerous for the man; yet, the disease is spreading quite quickly among the animals and causes serious material damages to agriculture. There is no vaccine against ASFV. The present vaccination of swine reduces the pressure of the virus, but does not lead to its disappearance. The pork coming from infected animals is not dangerous for people, but is not recommended for consumption.
