Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office comes up with specifications on letter sent by Swiss authorities

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) has come up with a reaction following the information made public by Interior Minister Andrei Nastase today. Thus, PG denied the statements “on the concealing of requests, coming from the law-enforcement bodies of Switzerland, as well as the procrastination of the answer on behalf of the Prosecutor General’s Office to the Swiss side.”
According to PG, on 3 June 2019, the Prosecutor General’s Office received, through Moldova’s Justice Ministry, a letter in which the Swiss authorities were informing, by an express confidentiality clause, they would hold information on suspect transactions in which public persons from Moldova and business people would be involved and was asking prosecutors to inform the law-enforcement bodies of Switzerland whether they need more information to investigate it. On the second day, Moldova’s Prosecutor General’s Office answered the authorities of Switzerland that it was ready to cooperate at the investigation of these transactions, the PG’s press release reads.
The Prosecutor General’s Office also said that, on 18 June 2019, PG had received the second letter from the law-enforcement bodies of Switzerland, which contained additional information. The Prosecutor General’s Office sent the concerned information to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and instructions were given to start actions on this petition.
Subsequently, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office authorized at the court investigator the lift of banking information from financial institutions of Switzerland, prepared the application of the rogatory commission to the law-enforcement authorities of Switzerland and at present, all documents are in process of translation.
PG gave assurances that, once translated, the set of acts would be sent to the Swiss authorities, according to the petition and with the observance of the term in which they were demanded by the competent authorities of Switzerland.
Interior Minister Andrei Nastase today demanded the starting of an inquiry at the Prosecutor General’s Office on the concealing of an official letter received on behalf of the Swiss authorities.
