Moldova to sign 03 agreements with European Commission amounting over €42.5 mln

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers has approved on Tuesday, 23 July, the decision on initiating negotiations on project and signing the Financing Agreement (FA) between the Government of Moldova (GM) and European Commission (EC) regarding strengthening of the rule of law and anticorruption mechanisms.
The document provides for €08 million of funding from EC and €490 thousand to be provided by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
The overall objective of FA is to contribute to prevention and combatting of corruption, and specific objectives include the development of zero tolerance of corruption among Moldovan citizens, reinforcing anticorruption mechanisms, including in particular criminal investigation and investigation mechanisms, asset recovery functions, wealth declaration, conflicts of interest and corruption prevention.
According to the EC's decision to implement the Annual Action Programme 2018 of EU for Moldova, to be funded under the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI), one of its objectives is to prevent and combat corruption. Thus, Annex 03 of the Programme provides for FA between GM and EC on: The strengthening the rule of law and anticorruption mechanisms in Moldova.
The implementation period of FA will start on the date of its entry into force and end on expiry of 84 months from that date. The implementation period of FA will include two periods: operational implementation period of 60 months from the date of entry into force of FA and completion period that is set at 24 months.
The FA is to be implemented by GIZ.
The Government has also approved the decision to initiate negotiations and approve signing of FA between GM and EC on: The support for implementation of Moldova – EU Association Agreement. The agreement will be funded from EU budget by means of ENI. The project total cost is €10.7 mln.
A third decision concerns initiation of negotiations and approval of signing FA between GM and EC on inclusive economic support of districts Cahul and Ungheni. The total cost of Programme is estimated at €23.5 mln, out of which €23 mln will be provided by EU and €500 thousand by UNDP.
