Moldovan deputy PM meets corapporteurs of PACE Committee

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Vasilii Sova, has received the corapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Maryvonne Blondin (France) and Egidijus Vareikis (Lithuania), on Monday, 22 July. The meeting has been attended by the head of the Council of Europe's Office in Chisinau, William Massolin, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) and the officers of the Reintegration Policy Bureau (BPR).

According to the Bureau of Reintegration Policies, during the talks, the officials conducted a review of the developments and perspectives in the Transnistrian issue. Thus, the discussions highlighted the common interest in developing and strengthening cooperation in solving the most pressing problems faced by the inhabitants of both sides of the Dniester, giving priority to the issues of free movement, respect for human rights and the right to education in native language.

It was called for more active involvement of the Council of Europe on the issue of improving the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region, with recommendations and guidelines for European best practices which would also support the work of human rights working groups.

Deputy PM, Vasilii Sova, specified the importance of the practical involvement of international partners to create favourable and comfortable conditions in which pupils from Moldovan schools with Latin – script teaching would carry out their school activity according to contemporary standards.

The deputy PM for Reintegration thanked for the constant support offered by the Council of Europe and expressed his openness for implementation of the joint trust – building projects and socio – humanitarian impact for the population on both sides of the Dniester.
