Moldovan parliament speaker meets European Parliament president

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliamentary majority of Moldova supports the Maia Sandu cabinet in starting the reforms in the interest of the citizens and backs President Igor Dodon in his initiatives on strengthening the sovereignty, independence and development of the country, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii made statements to this effect at a meeting with European Parliament President David-Maria Sassoli in Brussels today, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.    

Zinaida Greceanii thanked for opportunity to reiterate, along with the PM, the joint commitment before the citizens and foreign partners for a balanced policy for the benefit of Moldova. The speaker reiterated the firm position of the parliamentary majority for establishing sustainable friendship relations with EU.    

In the context, Zinaida Greceanii stressed that the Association Agreement was to be implemented, according to Moldova’s commitments. At the same time, Grecianii highlighted the need to redistribute the quotas for certain products and turn to good account all sales markets. “We should create an economic HUB on the territory of Moldova, which would allow attracting foreign investments, producing and exporting goods in all directions,” the parliament speaker said.   
 
David-Maria Sassoli said that the European Parliament was open to support the ruling coalition, noting the necessity that the latter remains unitary and brings democratic values to Moldova. The European Parliament’s president also said that he was waiting to requests of support on behalf of Moldova and was confident in an efficient cooperation with Moldova’s parliament. According to the EU official, good relations in the West and in the East are necessary for Moldova, as well as political stability, which will lead to the increase of investments.      
 
For her part, the parliament speaker thanked for the unlocking of the financial assistance, for encouragings conveyed at the discussions from the European Parliament on 16 July and invited MEPs to visit Moldova.     
 
The parliament speaker along with the prime minister of Moldova pays a visit to the European Parliament today.
