Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - The biggest challenge for Moldova is the reform of the judicial system and edification of institutions able to fight corruption. Prime Minister Maia Sandu made statements to this effect during discussions at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs in Brussels today.
„We want to strengthen the independence of the judicial system. On the other hand, we cannot expect this reform to take place just from itself. Unfortunately, many from the system are corrupt. The challenge is quite big. We need you advice and we still study to see which the best way to solve this situation. I want these reforms to be successful as soon as possible. The expectations on behalf of the citizens are huge,” Maia Sandu said.
According to PM, another challenge is the appointment of a new prosecutor general, who will have to launch the reform in the sector, as well as to achieve quick results in the corruption cases, ”as the citizens trust will be able to be regained only in this way.”
„The former president of Romania, MEP Traian Basescu spoke about the European integration prospects for Moldova. This would be quite helpful for us. We clearly understand that we must enforce the Association Agreement. We know that we must really achieve results as to our commitments; yet, we should obviously know what we actually expect at the end of this long and difficult way. Our schedule is quite clear: the idea is to go further on the way of Moldova’s European dream,” Maia Sandu said.
