Political representatives in negotiating process for Transnistrian settlement meet in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - A working meeting of the political representatives in the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement on behalf of Chisinau and Tiraspol, with the participation of the competent experts, took place in Chisinau today, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.    

The participants in the meeting considered a wide range of issues, including the ones on the promotion of confidence-building measures, fulfillment of the commitments agreed upon in the so-called Berlin plus package, discussing initiatives meant to contribute to boosting the dialogue and concrete settling of current problems. 

The meeting was held in an open and pragmatic atmosphere.  

Chisinau’s political representative expressed the need to undertake, on the nearest period, actions necessary to achieve substantial progress in the file of telecommunications and in identifying a viable mechanism of provisional customs clearance of oil products imported through the border checkpoint Colbasna-Slobodka.    

The chief negotiators showed satisfaction with the march of implementation of earlier reached agreements (for instance, on the process of apostilling education diplomas from the Transnistrian region). 

As for the work of the Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region, the sides pointed out the need to foster the dialogue, in order to create friendly conditions and in compliance with the standards in force for the organization of the education process, especially providing the latter with fit buildings.   

The participants in the meeting also discussed in detail the issue of free movement; the sides exchanged opinions on initiatives aimed at removing the obstacles between both banks of Dniester.   

As for the participation in the international road traffic of the vehicles registered at the points of registration of transport means from Tiraspol and Rabnita, the sides specified that the communication on technical aspects was to be provided at the level of sectoral working groups.   

As far as the subject of criminal files is concerned, the participants in the meeting stressed the need to continue the dialogue, in order to direct the latter into a practical dimension.   

The participants in the event backed a proposal on the implementation, with the support of international partners, of a project on the launch of a trolley bus line between the Varnita village of the Anenii Noi district and Bender city. They also agreed on the working out of a joint addressing, to ask foreign donors to finance a project on infrastructure on the reconstruction of the Chisinau-Tiraspol-Kuchurgan highway.     

The political representatives agreed on a proposal by the OSCE Mission on convening the next official round of the 5+2 format of talks in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 7-8 October 2019. 

The chief negotiators on behalf of Chisinau and Tiraspol informed the representatives of the 5+2 format of negotiations about the discussions held in the 1+1 format and their results and thanked the OSCE Mission for the good organization of the event. 

The sides agreed on the holding of the next meeting of the political representatives in Tiraspol.
