Moldovan PM meets Romanian member of European parliament in Brussels

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ – During a working visit to Brussels, Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, had a meeting with ex – President of Romania and member of European Parliament (MEP), Traian Basescu, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
PM Maia Sandu thanked Traian Basescu for his firm support during the political crisis in Chisinau and for constant interest in Moldova. "Thank you for joining us in these difficult moments and for encouraging us not to give up despite the obstacles and defend democracy in Moldova with all our strength," said the Moldovan official.
Traian Basescu stressed to be essential that Moldova remains an important topic in the discussions in EU. Also, the MEP specified the necessity of finalising the interconnections as soon as possible, especially in the field of natural gas, as well as solving other issues faced by Moldovan citizens.
During the debates on Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) on Wednesday, 24 July, Traian Basescu spoke and pointed out that Moldova has been assisted by EU for almost 30 years, and yet it has remained in a grey area, emphasising in this context the need for Moldova to be given a clear perspective of the EU integration.
