Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - A new case of African swine fever has been confirmed in the Milesti village, central Nisporeni district, in a private household in a pig, as well as at a farm with 92 pigs outside the Cahul municipality. The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) confirmed the cases today.
The commissions for emergency situations were convened in both settlements, and approved comprehensive plans of measures for combating and prophylaxis of the African swine fever, under the legal provisions. Also, in Nisporeni and Cahul, epidemiological investigations are carried out in the area of the aforementioned hotbeds and measures of eradicating the phenomenon are taken, with the involvement of local authorities and ANSA specialists. Zones of protection and supervision were established nearby the hotbeds; a census of domestic pigs is made in the concerned areas; the reservoirs of the wild fauna are controlled; the screening of domestic pigs from the hotbeds is made.
At the same time, all owners, whose pigs were liquidated in order to eradicate the swine fever, will receive compensations, according to the legislation.
Presently, three hotbeds of African swine fever in domestic pigs are registered in evolution in Moldova: in the Manta village (southern Cahul district), Milesti village (Nisporeni district) and a hotbed of African swine fever in wild boars – in the forest zone – 2.7 km far from Lipcani (northern Briceni district) and 239 metres far from the Prut river.
The National Food Safety Agency asked the owners of pigs to urgently inform the institution’s subdivisions, veterinary physicians or local public authorities in cases of animals falling sick or perishing and recommends the observance of the minimum requirements of bio-security, set under cabinet decision.
„In the context, we demand that the citizens do not buy food products of pork from the neighbour countries and not bring them to Moldova, as they will be confiscated and destroyed, given the risk they pose,” ANSA sources said.
