Candidate for position of acting prosecutor general announced in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Commission of legal issues, appointments and immunities of Parliament will examine candidacy of Dumitru Robu for acting General Prosecutor on Tuesday, 30 July.
The announcement has been made by the head of commission, Sergiu Litvinenco.
The deadline for submitting files for identification of a candidate for the position of acting General Prosecutor expired on Monday, 29 July, at 17:00.
MP Liviu Vovc has announced this morning that 09 persons have submitted their files to contest. These are: Ghenadie Barba, acting in the OSCE, lawyer Ilie Rotaru, Alexandru Rata, chief prosecutor in the District Prosecutor's Office, Viorel Morari, former head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, lawyer Anatolie Istrate, Dumitru Robu, deputy chief prosecutor Chisinau, Viorel Pocaznoi, head of the Directorate General for criminal prosecution, Boris Lupascu, ex – head of section in the General Prosecutor's Office and Viorel Radetchi, prosecutor in the Prosecutors' Section for special missions in the General Prosecutor's Office.
The Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) was to propose last week to President a candidate for position of acting General Prosecutor. However, the exercise failed due to a lack of quorum at the CSP meeting. Under these terms, the legislation provides for appointment of an acting General Prosecutor by presidential decree, at the proposal of Parliament, with the opinion of CSP.
Ex – General Prosecutor, Eduard Harunjen, resigned from office on 11 July 2019. Currently, the position of acting General Prosecutor is held by deputy Igor Popa.
