Chisinau, 13 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Ministry of Finance (MF) pleads for elimination of interest for covering the hole created by the theft of the billion. The announcement has been made by minister Natalia Gavrilita.
According to cited source, at present, besides the stolen money, from the state budget (BS) there is also an interest rate of 1.4 per cent by 2026 and 5.3 per cent by 2041 to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM). The interest is paid to ensure the stability of the account of BNM, said Gavrilita.
"The first step we can take, as to alleviate the burden placed on the shoulders of citizens, is to try to eliminate the interest paid out of the pocket of taxpayer. In 2020, it will constitute MDL 613 million. We shall analise and identify other solutions to ensure the stability of the BNM account. But, firstly, the BNM has to come up with proposals to solve the issue”, wrote Natalia Gavrilita on her official page on a social network.
The minister has added that the money stolen from bank fraud must be returned by the ones which set and profited from that robbery, and the fact that the burden of stealing the billion is placed on the shoulders of citizens is an injustice.
