Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/- Women need to be supported and promoted to remove inequalities in society, in particular support is needed for women in rural areas. In this respect, it will be working hard in the parliament, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii said today at a meeting with Milana Rikanovic, UN Women representative in the Republic of Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker said that the parliament has already managed to promote rules that provide additional support for women, by amending the Electoral Code and establishing a quota of three women for every 10 candidates, thus minimizing the risk of placing at the bottom of the list of candidates.
According to UN Women, there has been a qualitative leap in the Republic of Moldova by promoting women, party leaders, to the legislative and executive leadership. This success should be shared with other states, which could take over our country's experience of women in politics.
The parties discussed the need to promote projects that would encourage women's involvement in decision-making processes and at the same time ensure a balance between work and family life. Also, it was pointed out the opening for the joint elaboration of social and budgetary policies that would eliminate inequalities in society.
