Moldovan PM requests to declare 23 August Day of commemoration of victims of all totalitarian, authoritarian regimes

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/ – At the beginning of the Government meeting, on Wednesday, 14 August, Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, has asked the State Chancellery (CS) to prepare a Government decision, by which 23 August will be declared the Day of commemoration of victims of all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The initiative is in line with the European Parliament Resolution of 2009, calling for establishment of such a day, and with the Declaration of the European Parliament of 2008, which proclaimed the European Day of Remembrance for the victims of Stalinism and Nazism on 23 August.
The Resolution stresses the importance of preserving the memory of the past and reconfirms the solidarity position against all totalitarian regimes, regardless of their ideological nature. The Government of Moldova condemns all crimes against humanity and serious human rights violations, recognises the suffering of all victims of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, and declares that peace and reconciliation, based on the memory of victims, democracy and respect for human rights are the only model of development that will follow.
Also, PM Maia Sandu has said that today, at the meeting of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), she has warned the service Combating Money Laundering, which is subordinated to Government, not to sabotage the investigation of the issues related to the theft of the billion and other corruption schemes. The PM has also come with a message for all institutions under Government. "Do not try to sabotage, take all requests seriously because we all have a responsibility to law and citizens. The ones which allow themselves not to fulfill their liabilities, will pay for this attitude”, said Maia Sandu.
Also, during the Government meeting, Maia Sandu has mentioned the issue of food supply in educational institutions, especially about the serious situations that are happening. " I convinced myself that the Education Departments have a non – serious, irresponsible attitude, especially the Chisinau Education Department." The Prime Minister has asked the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) together with the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS) and ANSA to come up with concrete solutions to avoid the intoxication of children with bad products. Maia Sandu has also proposed elaboration of a black list of the suppliers of products trying to sell to the state bad or poor quality products.
