Moldovan PM calls for speeding up of conditions imposed by EU in order to unlock macrofinancial assistance

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, has attended the meeting of the Governmental Commission for European Integration, on Wednesday, 14 August. The discussions focused on key topics in the Moldovan – EU dialogue on the Association Agreement and macrofinancial assistance.

According to the government's communication and protocol department, the meeting reviewed the evolution of conditionalities for obtaining the macrofinancial assistance from EU, but also the evolution of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement. PM Maia Sandu has specified that it has been resumed the high – level political dialogue of Moldova with EU, by granting budget support for Moldova, being allocated €14.54 mln for actions such as: financing of education and vocational training programmes and implementation of the Action Plan for liberalisation of visa regime.

According to PM, there will follow the tranches for the other programmes to support the budget by the end of 2019.

At the same time, Maia Sandu has stressed that following the discussions with the European institutions, it has emerged the need for additional actions imposed by EU in order to benefit from financial resources.

In this context, the PM has requested from responsible authorities an active and intense involvement as to carry out the additional actions until the end of September. "It is important to make every effort to benefit from the openness of EU to disburse the two tranches of macrofinancial assistance by the end of the year. We must make significant progress at the level of all institutions, each in its direction,” said PM.

Minister of Finance, Natalia Gavrilita, has mentioned that the macrofinancial assistance includes 28 conditionalities and mentioned the need to undertake a series of well – organised actions to resolve the commitments.

The political conditions imposed by EU include: ensuring democratic standards in Moldova, conducting free, transparent local elections, demonopolising media market, respecting human rights and the rule of law, investigating bank fraud, decomposing corruption schemes, depoliticising justice, but also regulating the fiscal package.
