Moldovan MP remains without parliamentary immunity

Chisinau, 15 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Parliament has approved on Thursday, 15 August, the request of the acting General Prosecutor, Dumitru Robu, to lift the parliamentary immunity of MP Ilan Shor.

After several hours of discussions, the MPs responded to the request of the General Prosecutor's Office (PG) to investigate and detain MP Shor.

According to the request of acting General Prosecutor, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (PA) has initiated criminal proceedings related to 2014 and 2019. The object of investigation is the multitude of actions of a group of persons, aimed at devaluing in 2010 – 2014 of the banking system of Moldova, by stealing money in very large proportions from the assets of the Savings Bank (BEM), Social Bank (BS) and Unibank and committing of other criminal acts in order to achieve the personal and group interests.

During the criminal prosecution, there were administered samples indicating that the crime was committed by Shor in the criminal law – abuse of office, committed by the administrator of a bank in the interest of an organised criminal group or a criminal organisation.

The decision to withdraw the immunity of MP Ilan Shor has been approved by the lawmakers at an extraordinary session that takes place on 12 – 16 August.
