Diaspora Days launched in Chisinau

Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/ – In Chisinau, there have been launched the Diaspora Days (ZD), on Friday, 16 August, throughout a special event held at the Palace of the Republic. It brings together over 200 citizens of Moldova established abroad.
The officials have present at the event urged the Diaspora representatives to return to Moldova as to contribute together to its development.
The head of state, Igor Dodon, has stated at the event opening that the more than 01 million citizens of Moldova, which work abroad, send around MDL 30 bln annually, which is the equivalent of half of the state budget (BS) for a year.
Igor Dodon has given assurances that he wants the existing Government in Chisinau to work for a full four – year term. As it stands for foreign policy priorities, the President has said that all agreements signed with EU will remain in force and be implemented, so as to change the quality of life here at home. However, Dodon has also opted to improve relations with other external partners of Moldova.
At her turn, Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, has said that many of the citizens of Moldova "left our country not for pleasure, but they were forced to leave, because there were no opportunities, because of corrupt politicians." In this context, one of the priorities of the Government in Chisinau is to create conditions so that as many citizens as possible which went abroad to return home.
"The Diaspora has been an important element in the fight against oligarchic regime and in the fight for democracy. Moldova needs you, you need to put your shoulder to the complicated process of restarting of the democratic processes. No matter how hard it is, we must change the things. The Government and Diaspora share the desire to make the lives of citizens better. We want things to happen very quickly, but they are complicated processes", said Maia Sandu.
Traditionally, the ZD are held yearly, at the end of the 3rd week of August. In 2019, the ZD are organised on 12 – 17 August. During this time, it will be organised more events, including a charity event and exhibition: Moldova from anywhere.
