Moldovan parliament appoints two judges at top court

Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/- Socialist Vladimir Turcan and judge Domnica Manole were appointed today by the parliament as judges of the Constitutional Court. On 15 August, the government appointed two CC magistrates. The positions will be held by Liuba Șova and Nicolae Roșca.
The draft decision on appointment of some judges of the Constitutional Court was included on the agenda of the extraordinary meeting of parliament by speaker Zinaida Greceanîi and was signed by heads of the factions of PSRM and ACUM bloc.
This decision shall enter into force upon adoption.
Late last month, the legal commission on rules and immunities organized a competition on the two magistrate positions at the Constitutional Court, after which former Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu and former secretary of state at the Justice Ministry Nicolae Esanu were selected.
Dominique Manole is 58 years old and has held many positions over the years, including as a magistrate at the Ciocana Court and as a judge at the Civil College of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
Vladimir Turcan is 65 years old and previously held the position of First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Moldova to the Russian Federation.
On June 26, five judges of the Constitutional Court resigned.
According to the Law on the Constitutional Court, the institution is made up of six judges, appointed for a term of six years. Two judges are appointed by the parliament, two by the government and two by the Superior Council of the Magistrate. On 2 July, the parliament, the government and the Superior Council of Magistracy initiated the contest for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court.
