Record harvest of grapes of 2018 lifts Moldova into Top – 20 global producers

Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/ – The record grape harvest, registered in Moldova in 2018 – 2019, has lifted Moldova in the Top – 20 world producers, according to a report presented at the Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (IOVW).
According to document, Moldova ranks 19th in the world, with a volume of 1.9 million hectolitres of wine produced and 13th – after the surface of vineyards (147,000 ha).
In Moldova, the consumption of wine is estimated at 18 litres/capita, which places Moldova 17th in the world.
In 2018 – 2019, worldwide, the wine production was one of the most important in recent 18 years, reaching 292 mln hectolitres, up to 17 per cent compared to 2017. In 2018, the world wine trade registered a slight decrease in volume compared to 2017 (– 0.7 per cent), but increased in value by 1.2 per cent, reaching €31 billion. The most important wine exporters remain Spain, Italy and France.
The report was presented before the National Conference of the wine sector: Grape harvest 2019: particularities and use, which will be organised on 22 August 2019, in Chisinau, by the National Office of Vine and Wine. The event will present the results and trends of wine year 2018 – 2019 in Moldova.
