Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/ – Thirty beekeepers from all over Moldova have exhibited their goods in a fair organised in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral in the centre of Chisinau. The event is open until 18 August.
The beekeepers have brought the best products from their farms to the fair. They provide visitors with the highest quality honey, pollen, propolis and other bee goods. The fair has reached its 15th issue and it is organised in the context of marking the Day of Beekeeper, on 19 August.
Interviewed by agency, the head of the National Association of Beekeepers of Moldova, Ion Maxim, has said that this year the beekeepers estimate that they will produce a larger quantity of honey, about 6,000 tonnes. And its quality will be higher. However, the price of honey will remain at about the same level, except for acacia honey, which will be slightly more expensive due to lower production.
Ion Maxim has said that, at present, the wholesale price for a kg of acacia honey varies MDL 65 – MDL 80. Also, lime honey is sold at a wholesale price of MDL 45 – MDL 50 per kg, and the polyflorous one – MDL 28 – MDL 35.
In 2018, the beekeepers of Moldova produced about 5,000 tonnes of honey. Most of it was exported. Moldovan producers mainly sell honey in EU, which is one of the few products of animal origin admitted for export to the European market. In recent years, the exports of honey bees produced by beekeepers in Moldova have increased tenfold and reached $14 mln yearly, according to experts.
