Over 200 countrymen from abroad attend Diaspora Days in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Prime Minister of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has attended the official opening of the Diaspora Days in Moldova on Friday, 16 August. In her speech, Maia Sandu has said that the existing Government has been making consolidated efforts to restart the economic and democratic processes in Moldova and that the Executive needs support, knowledge and experience of Moldovan citizens from Diaspora, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The event has been also attended by the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, deputy PM, Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrei Nastase, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Vadim Brinzan, Minister of Finance, Natalia Gavrilita, representatives of development partners, representatives of diaspora communities, as well as persons in charge of cooperation with diaspora within public institutions.

During the event, the PM has emphasised the important role that diaspora has for the whole society. "The existing Government recognises your sacrifice and courage, your power to assert yourself as dignified, free and hard – working persons in foreign states. Moldova needs you, you need to put your shoulder to the complicated process of restarting the economic and democratic processes in our country. This is our home and no matter how hard it may continue to be, we must and can change things. Now our strength is even greater, because we have the same desire – and diaspora, and Government – to make the lives of citizens better," said Maia Sandu.

In his greeting to participants, deputy PM, Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrei Nastase, has outlined that Moldova needs a constant freedom and democracy, which is still being learnt in Moldova, and that diaspora can contribute to these objectives. " Your road is mine as well, far from family. This is why the current Government has a moral duty towards diaspora, which has always supported us. For your essential contribution, the whole society brings you gratitude and all the respect”, said Andrei Nastase.

At his turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, has specified the need for constant support from Moldovan citizens and importance of external assistance for achieving common benefits. "Moldova needs an active economic diplomacy, investments to create jobs in our country, with good salaries, for citizens to benefit from quality education and medical services," said Nicu Popescu.

Present at the event, the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Vadim Brinzan, expressed his respect towards the Moldovans from abroad who return home. "I am glad that there are people who decide to return to the country, as I did, after 20 years in the USA. We want to create good conditions for business, in which to harness your intellectual potential. Me as a minister, together with all members of Government, we set out to offer the possibility of those leaving to return home, develop businesses, bring economic potential we need to transform Moldova into a European country, with high salaries and a decent living," said minister.

Also, Minister of Finance, Natalia Gavrilita, has encouraged diaspora to return home to create the hope of a prosperous future for the next generations. "The diaspora plays a vital role for the whole country. As a diaspora member, I know that life outside the borders of Moldova has great opportunities, but also great costs. I also say – it is a real joy to be back in the house of parents, see my son growing up with my grandparents, work for development of our country – I encourage you to come back, to follow your vocation at home. Let us work together to make Moldova the country we all want to live in," said Natalia Gavrilita.

Also, it will be held a series of discussion workshops on topics of interest of diaspora. This issue of 2019 is attended by over 200 participants from abroad.
