New constitutional judges to elect head of top court

Chisinau, 19 August /MOLDPRES/- Constitutional judges will elect today the head by secret ballot for a term of three years.
According to the law on the Constitutional Court, the plenum of six constitutional judges elects by secret vote a head for a term of three years. If he is not elected in the first round, another meeting is convened.
Under the legislation, CCM head summons the Constitutional Court and presides over its sittings, issues orders, coordinates the activity of the Court and distributes the cases for settlement, ascertains the cases of termination of the judge's mandate and notifies the public authority that appointed him to appoint a judge for the vacant position, exercises the general management of Secretariat of the court, employs and dismisses the Secretariat workers, submits for approval to the magistrates the regulation of the Secretariat of the Court, the organizational chart, status of functions, regulation of the Scientific-Advisory Council of the CCM, approves the regulation of the Secretariat departments.
On 16 August, the new judges appointed to the Constitutional Court took the oath in the parliament. Thus, the parliament appointed Vladimir Turcan and Domnica Manole as judges of the Constitutional Court.
The Government appointed Liuba Șova and Nicolae Roșca as judges of the Constitutional Court, and the Superior Council of Magistracy - Sergei Turcan and Eduard Ababii.
The Constitutional Court is composed of six judges, appointed for a term of six years. Two judges are appointed by the parliament, two by the government and two by the Superior Council of Magistracy.
