Ukrtransgaz agrees with Moldovagaz on "necessary technical solutions" to carry out imports from Romania

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ – Ukrtransgaz and Moldovagaz, together with gas carriers from other states, agreed on "technical solutions necessary for creation of new import capacities under the trans – Balkan gas pipeline system, in the south – north direction", so as to carry out the import of gas from Romania. The actions are being taken in anticipation of a possible decision of Russia to halt the transit through Ukraine of gas destined for EU.

A statement from the Ukrainian company shows that, finally, the creation of new import capacities will allow it to import another 1.5 billion m3. "It is expected that, starting with 01 January 2020, it will be created a constant capacity for imports from Romania of 1.5 billion m3 of gas per year, regardless of the volume of transit of Russian gas on the territory of Ukraine," says the press release. The gases will be imported from Isakcha – 1 – Orlovka point through the Razdelnaia – Ismail and Shebinka – Dnepropetrovsk – Krivoi Rog – Ismail pipelines.

The experts of Ukrtransgaz and Moldovagaz have agreed to modernise border gas distribution stations to operate in reverse mode.

"For Ukraine and Moldova this project is of strategic importance, because, by diversifying the sources of gas supply, it will increase reliability and uninterrupted supply of gas," said Ukrtransgaz.

Kiev fears that, in 2020, Russia will completely cease gas transit through Ukraine, after the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is in operation, which will directly link Russia with Germany. For this reason, it started storing gas in tanks in the western part of the country, with a total capacity of over 30 billion m3. Also, there have been upgraded 05 compression stations, which will ensure the flow of gas from west to east and south of Ukraine, writes europalibera.org.
