Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ – Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, and the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Derek J. Hogan, have discussed the multilevel bilateral contacts of Moldova and USA, as well as U.S. support for Moldova to benefit from a new programme Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

During the meeting, the interlocutors have discussed the bilateral contacts that will take place at several levels between Moldova and USA in near perspectives.

Minister Nicu Popescu has reiterated the importance of cooperation with the U.S. agency MCC, noting that "Moldova has so far been unable to benefit from a new financial programme from the Millennium Challenge Corporation because of the corruption that has become increasingly present".

At his turn, Ambassador Hogan has given assurances of all his support for Moldova to benefit from a new programme of this corporation, but that one of the essential preconditions is to intensify with all the power to fight corruption in Moldova.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is an independent and innovative external assistance agency of the U.S. Government, which advocates for poverty reduction. Up to date, the MCC has funded assistance programmes in areas such as agriculture and irrigation, transportation (roads, bridges, ports), providing drinking water and sewage, access to healthcare, finance and business development, anticorruption initiatives, access in education, etc.
