Unique development solution for Moldova represents integration into EU, says PM in Vilnius

Chisinau, 22 August /MOLDPRES/ – During her official visit to Vilnius, Prime Minister, Maia Sandu, has met with the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, on Thursday, 22 August. The officials have discussed the prospects of Moldovan – Lithuanian cooperation on multiple levels, evolutions of internal politics of Moldova and Lithuania, implementation of reform agenda in Moldova, being addressed including regional security issues, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
PM Maia Sandu has addressed sincere congratulations to President Gitanas Nauseda on the occasion of winning the presidential elections and taking over this high – ranking position. Also, the head of Government has highly appreciated the political support provided by Lithuania to the European path of Moldova and its valuable assistance offered in the process of carrying out sectoral reforms in Moldova.
Also, Maia Sandu has expressed her gratitude for the support provided by Lithuania during the political crisis in Chisinau and for multidimensional support offered to Moldova both in the processes of European integration and Eastern Partnership (EaP). The Moldovan PM has emphasised that the unique development solution of Moldova is the integration into EU, so as to ensure democracy, respect for human rights and a high standard of living for Moldovan citizens and carry out reforms in key areas, such as justice sector and fight against corruption.
At his turn, President Gitanas Nauseda, has reiterated the importance of maintaining intense dynamics of relations of Moldova with the EU institutions and member states in order to continue the reform agenda. The official has also emphasised the interest to share the experience of Lithuania with Moldovan authorities in carrying out reforms for the benefit of citizens.
During the visit, PM Maia Sandu has had a meeting with Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Linas Linkevicius, today. The officials have examined the possibility of resuming the activity of Moldovan – Lithuanian Joint Commission for European Integration, in which it will be discussed issues concerning both European integration and economic cooperation.
On it, the interlocutors expressed interest in strengthening the Moldovan – Lithuanian cooperation within mutual promotion and protection of investments, fighting against crime, in the field of standardisation, as well as in the dimension of combating hybrid threats, being proposed organisation of an EaP event dedicated to cyber security, in autumn of 2019.
