Pupils from vocational schools in Moldova learn from Italian experts techniques for restoring historical buildings

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ – More pupils from Moldovan vocational schools have learnt from Italian experts how to restore historic buildings. The ceremony for handing out the participation certificates took place on Friday, 30 August, inside the Zemstvei Museum in Chisinau.
According to organisers, for five days, young people had both theoretical and practical courses. In the first part of the workshop, the specialists from Italy explained to pupils the specifics of restoration works and presented the necessary materials for them. In the second part, the young people, assisted by the Italian experts and their teachers from the vocational schools, made small interventions at the Zemstvei Museum, where it took place the training. They performed cleaning, consolidation and integration of interior details, as well as exterior fabric and decorations of the nearly 170 – year – old building.
The Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, the Italian Ambassador to Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, as well as representatives of the EU Delegation in Chisinau have participated in the ceremony for the awarding of certificates.
In her address, Minister Liliana Nicolaescu – Onofrei has pointed out the importance of such training, noting that the degree of preparation of the young restorers depends on how Moldovan architectural monuments will look after renovation.
In this context, Italian ambassador to Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, has said that Italy has a rich experience in the field of restoration, possessing a rich cultural heritage, recognised by UNESCO. "These educated young people have every chance to become guarantors of the beauty of Moldova, orient themselves towards a profession that contributes to preservation and enhancement of the beauty of this country – architectural monuments", specified Valeria Biagiotti.
The director of the National Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments, Ion Stefanita, has said that for the mechanism of protection, conservation, restoration of cultural heritage in Moldova to work, it is needed a well – prepared human resource. "Through this project, with the involvement of the experts from Italy, it invests in human resources, in the true specialists who must restore the heritage that we have inherited. Of course, by investing in these young people, we are investing in the country's heritage”, said Ion Stefanita.
Interviewed by agency, a pupil at the vocational school №04 in Chisinau municipality, Gheorghe Gherman, has said that he likes this profession and hopes that it will open up great prospects for the future.
The workshop was held on 26 – 30 August and it was organised by the EU Twinning Project: The support for promotion of cultural heritage in Moldova, through its preservation and protection", in collaboration with MECC of Moldova.
