District heads to be elected among councilors

Chisinau, 2 September /MOLDPRES/- District heads will be elected among councilors and deputy mayors will be elected and released from office at the mayor's proposal. The law providing it and the presidential decree on its promulgation were published in the Official Journal of Moldova today.
Under the new provisions, the deputy mayors will be elected and released from office at the mayor’s proposal by the council decision. If the draft decision will be excluded from the agenda at two consecutive meetings by the council or does not meet the required number of votes at two consecutive meetings, the mayor will appoint or release from office the deputy mayor by order, which will be notified to the council.
Over the next two months, the government will present to the parliament proposals for bringing the legislation in force in line with the new law.
Under the former law, as district head could be elected a person who is not elected locally and who has not participated in the election campaign.
