Central electoral commission establishes value of interest – free credits to be obtained by electoral competitors in Moldova

Chisinau, 03 September /MOLDPRES/ – The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has established, on Tuesday, 03 September, the amount of interest – free credits that will be granted to electoral competitors at the general local elections (ALG) on 20 October.
Thus, according to decision of CEC, political parties, social – political organisations and electoral blocks will be able to benefit from credits of up to MDL 50,000. In case of independent candidates, the value of credits will not exceed MDL 10,000. The Ministry of Finance (MF) is to draw up regulation for granting credits.
According to the Electoral Code's (CE) provisions, the electoral competitors which obtains less than 03 per cent of the valid votes cast throughout Moldova or in respective constituencies, including independent candidates which were not elected, will return the credits received from the state budget (BS) within 02 months from the end of voting. The other electoral competitors will repay the credits within 04 months. Also, the law provides for the possibility of the credits received from the state to be covered, in whole or in part, by the state, depending on the total number of valid votes cast for electoral competitor in respective constituency.
Similarly today, the CEC has established that the general ceiling on Moldova of financial means that can be transferred to "electoral fund" account of the electoral competitor at the local elections (AL) is MDL 21 mln.
The CEC has warned that in order to initiate the financing of election campaign in ALG, the electoral competitor will open an account with the mention: Electoral fund, in which it will be transferred his own financial means and those received from individuals, citizens of Moldova or legal entities in Moldova, for the purpose of financing election campaign. All the financial means related to financing of electoral campaign of candidates registered by political parties and electoral blocks will be managed throughout this account.
