Gas storage facility likely to be created in Moldova

Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/- In the Republic of Moldova a gas storage facility could be created. The issue was examined in Brussels by Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Vadim Brînzan and Deputy Director-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Katarina Mathernová.
The two officials also discussed obtaining an emergency loan for the purchase and storage of about 400 million cubic meters of gas in January and February 2020, construction of the back-to-back station in Vulcanesti, a 400 kV- transport line between Vulcanesti and Chisinau, as well as the extension of the Chisinau-Vulcanesti transformation stations.
Yesterday, Brinzan along with the delegation led by President Igor Dodon, who is visiting Brussels, had a meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič. The main issues focused on the gas supply of Moldova for next year, the collaboration between the EU, Moldova and Ukraine in order to secure gas supply route in reverse regime through the trans-Balkan pipeline of the Turkish Stream project, gas storage in the tanks of Ukraine through the traditional route.
Moldova’s energy security was discussed this week in Moscow. During a working visit to Moscow, the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, together with the Head of State Igor Dodon, met with Deputy Prime Minister, special representative of the Russian President for the development of trade and economic relations with Moldova, Dmitri Kozak, as well as with Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom company Alexey Miller.
The agenda of bilateral discussions included a number of topical topics for the economy of our country: gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova, export of Moldovan wine products to the Russian market, as well as problems related to the transport of goods and passengers. As a result, it was decided to expand the list of Moldovan goods for export to the Russian market, both vegetables and fruits, as well as wine production.
The gas delivery contracts to the consumers of the Republic of Moldova and the gas transit on the territory of our country, signed by Gazprom and Moldovagaz, are valid until the end of this year.
