Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/- The European People's Party is willing to contribute to the European Union to strengthen its support for Moldova. Party leader Joseph Daul made the statement today.
Joseph Daul said that the change of government in Chisinau brought much hope, but also raised many concerns. In this regard, the politician assured that the party will support our country so that citizens can feel the results of the reforms as soon as possible. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of reforming justice and combating corruption, in order to ensure a better life for the citizens.
“Moldovan citizens have a desire to change Moldova. They have the right to demand a better life, jobs, reunited families and a better health system. But for all this to happen, people deserve an independent, transparent justice system that respects the laws and serves the people, not other interests, ”Daul said.
100 days of government cannot change what has been destroyed and corrupted over the years. In this regard, he said he expects the Socialist Party to keep its word and fulfill its commitment to the population taken in the first week of government and to support urgent reforms in the judiciary, economy and other sectors.
Prime Minister Maia Sandu thanked the official for support. "You have supported us even when things were very bad here, when even in Brussels many people were wondering if in Moldova we are still able to restore democracy. You have been with us and you have taken care that the problems faced by Moldova are on the agenda of all European institutions. From now on we have a lot of work to do to implement the commitments we have made. Change does not happen so quickly, there is a lot of resistance, because for almost 30 years things have not been done well. We want to build a sustainable basis for development ”, the premier said.
The premier said that the Moldovan government relies on the EPP support on backing the EU enlargement process and providing European perspective to the Eastern Partnership countries. In this respect, the EPP Congress in Zagreb this November will be an opportunity to adopt a resolution similar to the one from the previous congress of 2018, which declared unequivocal support for the European perspective of the EP countries that have signed Association Agreements, Maia Sandu said.
Joseph Daul visits Chisinau. In the afternoon, the politician will visit Moldova State University, where he will exchange views on the importance of involving young people in the reforms that Moldova undertakes on its path to European integration.
