Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/- The intensification of the bilateral relations between Moldova and the European Union was the key issue discussed on 5 September at a meeting between Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Joseph Daul, President of the European People's Party (EPP), visiting Chisinau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The prime minister praised the support of the EPP family, offered to our country within the European institutions, and said that Moldova still relies on the support in implementing democratic reforms and advancing its European path.
"In the autumn of 2018 you have sent us a message:
Friends, even if the present looks grim, do not lose hope in the future. I am sure that the unity of the EPP member parties, as well as the resistance and willingness for change of Moldovan citizens shows that a better future awaits you!
You were right. You encouraged us. Moldovans continued to fight for democracy, respect of human rights and the rule of law. The change has come. From now on, we have a lot of work to do to implement all the commitments we have made, to build a truly democratic country, to build a rule of law ”, Sandu said.
At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of restoring the political dialogue between our country and the European Union and reiterated that the Republic of Moldova relies on the support of the EPP and on the EU enlargement process, by granting the European perspective to the countries of the Eastern Partnership.
"We want to build a sustainable basis for development, and that means doing things properly and thoroughly. Therefore, your support is still important for us. We know our commitments to the EU, primarily through the Association Agreement,” Sandu said.
Joseph Daul said he follows closely the evolution of the situation in Moldova over the years and especially in recent months, and admires the courage and political maturity of Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Nastase, who have found a solution to provide citizens with a government for all , not just for some.
"This new change in Chisinau brings a lot of hope, but it creates more expectations. You must know that 100 days with a new government cannot change what has been destroyed and corrupted for years. The fight against corruption, an independent justice and respect for the rule of law requires much work, from many directions ”, Daul said.
He reaffirmed the full support for the government led by ACUM, which has a very difficult and complicated mission, to bring Moldova back on the right path. "Due to the first concrete actions of the Sandu Government, the Republic of Moldova has gained the confidence of the European Union, which is already about to transfer the first installment of financial assistance, which has been blocked in the past", added the EPP President.
